dBook by Merav Shinn Ben-Alon
Drawings 2013-2014
This little book, measuring 15x10 cm, is the same size as my sketchbooks, with which I work daily. It includes 50 drawings with no text, printed on three types of paper, one of which is half-transparent paper. The book preserves the eclectic contemplative nature of the original sketchbooks and allows the viewer/reader to play with the drawings' arrangement and rearrange them into a new narrative.
The book's name dBook stands for Drawing book, Diary book, Daily book, while in Hebrew, it refers to 'dybbuk' (a malicious possessing spirit in Jewish folklore), an obsession.
The first edition of 50 copies was issued in 2015, and the second of 100 copies in 2017. The title was featured at Art Fairs such as Artport Tel Aviv and Inprint Jerusalem and at the Expon Art Gallery Hamburg.
The book is located at the Artist's Books section at Tel Aviv Museum's Library and at The Design Library at Beit Ariela.
